What is Scoop
|
Scoop is a "collaborative media application". It falls somewhere between a
content management system, a web bulletin board system, and a weblog.
Scoop is designed to enable your website to become a community. It empowers
your visitors to be the producers of the site, contributing news and discussion,
and making sure that the signal remains high.

Where can I get Scoop
|
You can download the latest release tarball: scoop_1.1.8.tar.gz
You can grab the nightly build. Note: This is generated automatically from the current CVS, and may not be reliable! Get that here: scoop-1.1-nightly.tar.gz
The developers strongly recommend CVS as the primary way to obtain Scoop, since releases tend to have pretty long delays between them. If you have CVS installed, do the following:
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@ scoop.versionhost.com:/cvs/scoop login
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@ scoop.versionhost.com:/cvs/scoop co scoop
The above is two commands; each one must be on a single line. When prompted for a password for anonymous, enter 'anonymous' (without the quotes). For more CVS info, "Open Source Development with CVS" is an excellent online reference.

Where can I get help
|
There are several sources of information and support for Scoop. The first place to look is the scoop-help mailing list. You can browse the archives, or join the list. If you want to post a question, joining the list is strongly recommended. You can also join the #scoop IRC channel on SlashNET.
For documentation, there is the (largely complete) Scoop administrator's guide. You can also read the current
README and
INSTALL files, from Scoop WebCVS (username and password are both "anonymous"). The admin guide is also included with Scoop, in the doc/ directory.
If you have new feature ideas or requests, or descriptions of something you're working on for Scoop, this site is the place to submit them. You can also search this site for information. If you want to get your hands dirty, or have any questions about developing for Scoop, there is also the Scoop-dev list. You can browse the archives, or join the list.
Bug reports and patches should be filed on the Scoop Bug Muncher.
If you have any problems with this site or your user account, e-mail the Admin

SVG.org, the first community-powered website for the W3C SVG technology, has just been greatly overhauled and relaunched. What started out as a confidential affair with a Movable Type install and just a few hand-registered users, is now a completely automated powerhouse thanks to Scoop.

Hi all...
Dropping a few bytes here to tell you that I have successfully deployed a scoop site in the name of PACS and the relentless struggle of the medical imaging world going digital. We are a group of PACS type people (paxy, for the lack of an adjective) who appreciate the scoop engine and will use it daily to express ourselves with our new ClubPACSWestMI user group!
Its running with the power of FreeBSD 4.9 and some really crappy SATA drives.

The World Forum
|

There are numerous right-wing and left-wing radio shows, television shows, and web forums, targeting specific nations, which mainly preach to the converted and often suppress opposing opinions. But there seem to be few forums that encourage the participation of people of all political and religious ideologies from the entire world. My wife and I felt that the world needed a forum with no political axe to grind whatsoever, where everyone from all walks of life across the world can discuss world events, sharing their different opinions and viewpoints, and in so doing, help everyone to expand their horizons and understand each other better.
So we built such a site, and The World Forum was launched this morning. We do not pretend that we do not have a political axe to grind--we are both rather left-wing and our stories will no doubt reflect this. But this site was not built so that we might have a place to freely post our political rantings. Other than the first story announcing the launch (which is quite similar to this story itself), our posts will go into the moderation queue just like everyone else's. It's a community site, and we sincerely hope that it will eventually attract people from all political spectrums to participate in intelligent debates.

We are working on a pilot project that will include a scoop site. An exhibition copy is located at http://www.unhprofs.org. If the powers that be like it, we will move it behind a firewall. Sorry to make a posting announcing a temporary site, butI wanted to give the folks working on scoop some sort of public credit!
