Scoop Universe. Unification of scoop sites. Feature Requests

Hello friends! What about the unification of multiple scoop sites in order to have the same stories queue?

Whenever a reader post a story he should be asked whether he wants this story to be posted to the site he is logged in only, or alternatively to all scoop sites that are members of the universe.

Also every scoop administrator should be able to choose if he accepts stories posted to other scoop sites to enter into the queue of his own site.

It is very nice to have those nice scoop stars, but he have to implement a gravity law for the sites that wish to enter to a universe.
Of course the only common thing between scoop stars will be the queue. Every scoop site should be able to have different members, different database and different voting algorithm in order to judge the stories.

What about a "scoop galaxy" instead of a (5.00 / 1) (#1)
by Mysidia on Mon Apr 01, 2002 at 04:04:26 PM PST

Where multiple scoop sites can link together via mutual agreement (maybe have a voting system of some sort among the existing members to accept new members), then every member can receive "global stories" (although they still have to be voted in by each site.

Also, for galaxy-wide stories, let comments be posted from across the galaxy, posters would appear as [Username@SiteId] in comment and article postings.

Let moderation be applied at each site independently, so Joe@k5's post might be rated a 2 on k5 while rated a 1 elsewhere, or asite might choose to average in the net ratings according to all the other sites if they like that policy.

Also have to have devices like "blacklist site/ip/user XXX" from posting queues/stories here from somewhere else in the galaxy

I think connections between sites should be explicit and understood by the site admins.. the options certainly shouldn't be "Be completely independent" or "be connected to all the other scoop sites in the world".

Moreover, all sites should be peers IMO, no "central server" that can impose an independent will on all members.

Good idea...tough to implement (none / 0) (#2)
by UncleMikey on Tue Apr 02, 2002 at 04:16:20 PM PST

Some thoughts:

Syndicated articles should not be part of the 'local' moderation queue, but part of a separate 'syndie mod queue'. Users can vote on which syndied articles should get locally posted.

There needs to be a (simple) protocol for syndicating articles (poll for an RDF file?). This part's easy. Tougher is syndicating comments...

I've been surfing online more than three hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It's pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all webmasters and bloggers made good content as you did, the web will be a lot more useful than ever before. CBD oil near me
