Permanent Discussion Boards Feature Requests

In addition to sections and topics, I would like to see something else implemented in Scoop, discussion boards. These would differ from stories in several ways:

  • No story, but a description of the board instead
  • Automatic comment paging, with 100 threads per page
  • Defaults: nested, sort by date - independently set from story defaults

The site admin could create boards in the same way he creates topics or sections, with another textarea for describing the board's content.

Reasons:

Stories expire, boards don't. They would be permanent places for meta discussion, flaming, technical arguments etc. On iA, for example, I would like to have a permanent technical discussion board and a permanent meta board.

Possible workaround:

Create some hidden SID and link it in the navigation bar.

Disadvantages:

Options cannot be set independently of story options and boards become unusable as number of comments increases.

Troll Talk?

But for something that will actually benefit the scoop community? ;)

something like this be attached to the story moderation queue would be handy. That way it's only open to registered users and it'd be a handy place to spout off one liners, get questions answered or such. And also, maybe only make the comments in such a place be rate-able only by trusted users on a black/white scale. (either 0 or no rating, to prevent spam but not discourage users from posting for fear of <fanfare>The Almighty Low Rating</fanfare>)

There are hidden sids, as well you cn use diaries to make a permanent board. What I think would be useful is if these things can be hotlisted and users can share their hotlists around.
